Bouncing Velox and Connectivity Problems
Rec 11-mar-2007 22:03
There's something spooky about my connectivity. Everything's been way too slow lately. Rumaging through the logs, I noticed that
ppp
has been reconnecting a lot lately:

Notice the large increase in reconnections since March 1st, which coincides with my perception of bad performance. Before that, it reconnected at most once a day -- sometimes it took saveral days without reconnections.
Dear readers which also use
Oi's Velox
ADSL service: are you experiencing similar problems? Or have you been able to connect and surf normally?
Perhaps it has something to do with the recent
Telemar-Oi merger. Historically, every time these mergers happen, costumers suffer.
On another note, last week Lincoln and Evandro came here. I managed to get Evandro connect to my Wifi network, but not without manually fiddling with Windows' configurations. Despite that, he remained unable to download his email, so we had to resort to my cabled network. On one side, Evandro's notebook is rather old, with a 802.11b-only card, while my AP (a D-Link DWL 2000 AP+) is 802.11b/g. However, I routinely and reliable connect using my
imate PDA-2K, whose interface is b-only too. Go figure.
Lincoln's MacBook, on the other hand, didn't associate at all, even though we made extra sure that we were using the correct key and that I have correctly set up the AP's MAC filter to allow his card.
A possible explanation is that maybe I'm already being a victim of spectrum overcrowding -- here at my home I can detect something between six and eight Wifi networks from neighbors and ISPs.
I'll look into it in more detail and report what I find out.
